Image Systems is listed on the Nasdaq OMX Stockholm stock exchange under the ticker IS. History In April 2011 Digital Vision acquired Image Systems and formed the Image Systems Group of companies. The company that today forms Image Systems’ Motion and Defence Business Units was originally formed in 1983 under the name Innovative Vision. The company, a break out from the University of Linköping, had been working with high-speed camera technology and recognised the need for the handling of data coming out of these cameras. The result was the motion analysis software, Trackeye. In order to capture the film from the analogue high-speed cameras they also needed a scanner for high resolution pictures, as a result the Golden Eye Scanner was developed by the same team. In 1984 the first motion analysis system was installed at Volvo for automotive crash testing, and today Volvo still actively uses Image Systems’ solutions for its testing. In 1996 Innovative Vision was sold to SAAB Combitech and in 1999 the original motion analysis business unit was separated to form a new company, Image Systems. In 2004, Images Systems introduced the TEMA software for digital high-speed cameras while Trackeye remained the flagship product for analysis of data from analogue film. In 2006 the Golden Eye Scanner, which was originally developed “just to” capture the film for the Motion analysis software, was introduced to the media industry and sold as a standalone product for restoring old films and is now a core part of the Media business unit of Image Systems. Digital Vision, which today forms the core of the Media business unit of Image Systems, was founded in Stockholm in 1988 by a team of engineers that had worked together at Swedish Telecom’s R&D labs where they worked on video compression algorithms and related technologies. They recognised the need for a high-quality grain and noise reducer for telecine applications in video postproduction as at that time they produced substantial amounts of video noise, which caused enormous problems for broadcasters and movie studios. This resulted in the launch of the popular DVNR image processing solution, including automatic, real-time film dirt and scratch removal with extremely efficient image compression systems. The company’s current image processing and restoration products span the range of standard definition video to very high resolution data. In 1992, the company won an Emmy™ Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for its motion compensation technology. Digital Vision’s BitPack video authoring system won the Peter Wayne Award from the International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM) in 1996. The Swedish Trade Council recognised Digital Vision as one of Sweden’s outstanding exporter companies in 1998, whilst the European Commission awarded the company with the prestigious European IT Prize in 1997 and 1998 for the BitPack video authoring system. In 2006, Digital Vision Optics (DVO) Image Processing Software won the Hollywood Post Alliance Award for Engineering Excellence. In 2005, Digital Vision acquired Nucoda Ltd and integrated its technology into the Nucoda product line. This has resulted in the leading colour grading, finishing and mastering solutions that are used to create much of the high profile television, film and commercials media broadcast today. In 2010 the Nucoda Film Master system won the Hollywood Post Alliance Award for Engineering Excellence for its high dynamic range (HDR) workflow.
