Bekräftelse att Ceplene är ute till försäljning i UK

Ceplene är nu tillgängligt i åtminstone ett område i UK, nämligen Doncaster, ett distrikt med en miljon invånare.

The Medicines Management Team is part of the Quality & Clinical Assurance Directorate. Medicines Management is all about optimising the access to, the use of and the good health outcome from medicines for both patients & health care professionals. Jag är tämligen säker på att Ceplene hör hemma under kategori 7 (a), dvs. ej licensierad ännu vilket vi alla vet. Förutom att Ceplene nu är tillgängligt för patienter och läkare i Doncaster så är det några saker som är intressant.

1. Reveiw date är som synes den 11 januari 2009. Det innebär att hematolgerna redan tidigt i år godkände Ceplene för användning i Doncaster. Att det sedan dröjde till den 2 juni och i praktiken juli innan det blev praktiskt möjligt är en annan sak men ändå intressant. Varför är det då intressant? Jo, Jack Talley, VD för Epicept har gång på gång poängterat det stora intresset hos hematologer i Europa för Ceplene och behandling av AML- patienter i remission. Kanske är det mer än bara prat... Sannolikheten är utifrån ovan stor att patienter nu behandlas i Doncaster med Ceplene via IDIS som jag ser det.

2. Även om Doncaster "bara" består av ca. 1 miljon invånare så är det ändå drygt en tiondel av Sveriges befolkning. Om vi antar att innvånarna i UK insjuknar i lika hög grad som svenskar i AML så innebär det 32 "nya" patienter årligen i Doncaster (Sverige 320 patienter). Vi pratar förstås om ytterst få patienter i det stora hela men det är inte poängen. Poängen är att ett område i UK (minst) nu erbjuder Ceplene. Vakna redeyeläsare kanske kan hitta fler.

Sedan kan man fråga sig hur det ser ut i exempelvis Tyskland och Japan, stora länder med stark ekonomi och med 9 000 nya AML - patienter årligen. Via obekräftade källor (svenskt sjukhus) har jag fått reda på att behandling av patienter med Ceplene redan har inletts i Tyskland.

Månne är det så att det börjar röra på sig nu!
