“Bonaventure Update on Winter Drilling at K9 Tuesday April 1, 3:11 pm ET
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(MARKET WIRE)–Apr 1, 2008 – BONAVENTURE ENTERPRISES INC. (CDNX:BVT.V - News)(Frankfurt:YQG.F - News) is pleased to provide an update on its previously announced start of the 2008 drilling program at the Company’s K9 Uranium Property (“K9”) in the James Bay Mining District.
Up to 14 near surface uranium targets from the K9 uranium corridor are being drilled using two core drill rigs. To date, a total of 1,623 m of NQ-sized coring has been completed in 8 holes, with 2 holes in progress, centered on Target 8 that encompasses Targets 4 thru 9, part of the original 1,200 m by 1,000 m “A” Zone.
Drill core descriptions and sampling of the first 8 holes has been completed, as well as down hole scintillometer surveying. The exploration team has been able to recognize key uranium-bearing lithologies, alterations and structures, as observed at surface in 2007. The average 150 m long drill holes show continuous radioactive zones with spiky down hole radiometric signatures which have been correlated with uranium-bearing radiometric highs recorded in up-dip surface outcrops, thus adding to the three-dimensional picture of the K9 uranium corridor. However, U3O8 assay results are still pending and will be issued as they become available.
The first 38 proposed drill holes for approximately 6,000 m will test all of the bedrock anomalous areas of Targets 1 to 14 (refer to the appended table for a listing of the diamond drill holes) along the 7 km K9 uranium corridor. Additional drilling is planned to delineate zones of higher grade uranium and mineral resource definition.
The salient features of the K9 Uranium Corridor (refer to previous Bonaventure news releases dated October 1, October 16 and November 12, 2007; and February 20 and March 4, 2008) are:
- A primary (surface) 7 km long uranium anomaly averaging 675 m in width;
- Equivalent uranium assays (or eU3O8) from a total of 522 readings in the corridor averaged 0.05% eU3O8;
- Equivalent uranium assays from 94 individual bedrock surface samples taken from the corridor averaged 0.12% eU3O8;
- 91 of 94 bedrock samples chemically assayed averaged 0.14% U3O8 (2.80 lbs/ton U3O8); and
- Equivalent uranium assays from 88 readings of surface outcrops of the Target 8 sector currently being drilled averaged 0.08% eU3O8; whereas chemical assays from the 26 bedrock samples averaged 0.21% U3O8.
Exploration to date on K9 indicates a significant two-dimensional uranium system covering 5.25 km2 in the near-vertical dipping lithologies. The uranium system is open laterally and at depth. K9 is being explored for Rossing-type uranium, a very large low grade, essentially mono-mineralic uranium deposit (with associated thorium) that is mined as a large-scale open-pit operation in Namibia. The principal exploration target is multiple uranium-bearing pegmatites, upwards of 30 m in thickness, in gneisses. Mining volume is usually created by the emplacement of many pegmatites in close proximity. This type of mineralization generally shows kilometric airborne radiometric anomalies for uranium similar to what is found at K9. Uranium levels in the pegmatites are 25 times background between 0.0075% (0.15 lbs/ton) to 0.01% (0.20 lbs/ton) U3O8. The Rossing Deposit average grade is around 0.032% (0.64 lbs/ton) U3O8, or approximately 100 times background values. At current uranium prices, it is conceivable that the Rossing Deposit can be economically mined at a grade as low as 0.008% (0.16 lbs/ton) U3O8 or approximately 25 times background values.
